The Jamia Alumni Network is delighted to congratulate Md Muktadiz Zaman, a proud alumnus of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College (Class of 2019), on his appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Tower Hamlets Carers Organisation (THCO), London, on 30 November 2024. He continues to serve in this role with dedication and commitment.
His appointment is a testament to his passion for volunteering, community leadership and public service. After years of serving communities in Bangladesh, he has continued the same journey in the United Kingdom, demonstrating that the values of compassion, selflessness and giving back know no boundaries.
Continuing a Journey of Service
After completing his SSC at Jamia in 2019, Md Muktadiz Zaman achieved an A Grade in his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 2021. In the summer of 2023, he moved to the United Kingdom to pursue the next chapter of his academic and professional journey.
Rather than focusing solely on his studies and career, he continued dedicating his time to voluntary and community work, building upon the experience he had already gained in Bangladesh.
A Proven Record of Community Leadership
Md Muktadiz’s appointment at Tower Hamlets Carers Organisation builds upon several years of voluntary leadership and humanitarian service.
Since the establishment of Umbrella Youth Foundation in June 2019, he has played an instrumental role in the organisation’s growth. As one of its founding members, he served as the Founding Public Relations Coordinator, later as Organisational Secretary, and in February 2023 was appointed as one of the Foundation’s Directors.
Throughout his time with Umbrella, he helped organise numerous humanitarian, environmental and youth development initiatives. These included supporting disadvantaged communities, promoting volunteerism, raising awareness of climate change and sustainable development, coordinating nationwide tree-planting campaigns and recognising individuals and organisations making outstanding environmental contributions through the Foundation’s Annual Environmentalist Award.
Alongside his work with Umbrella, he also served as Deputy Chief of the Friendship Department at the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Sylhet Unit, where he contributed to volunteer development, humanitarian programmes and youth engagement.
Serving the Community in the United Kingdom
Following his move to the United Kingdom, Md Muktadiz continued his commitment to community service by becoming involved with Tower Hamlets Carers Organisation, one of East London’s long-established charities supporting unpaid carers.
His appointment as Assistant Secretary reflects both his leadership experience and his dedication to supporting local communities. In this role, he contributes to the organisation’s administration, governance and community activities, helping strengthen services that support carers and their families.
His continued voluntary work demonstrates that community leadership is not confined by geography. Whether in Bangladesh or the United Kingdom, he remains committed to making a positive difference through service, compassion and active citizenship.
Continuing to Give Back
Alongside his role at Tower Hamlets Carers Organisation, Md Muktadiz Zaman remains actively involved in community life across the United Kingdom. He is an active member of the Jamia Alumni Association UK, the UK Chapter of his beloved alma mater, Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College, where he completed his SSC in 2019. Through the Association, he regularly supports alumni initiatives, community events and charitable activities, helping strengthen the bonds between Jamians living in the UK while maintaining a close and meaningful connection with the institution that laid the foundation of his educational journey.
Beyond his voluntary and community work, he is also a keen recreational cricketer. An enthusiastic pleasure cricketer, he regularly plays for local cricket clubs and local leagues, embracing sport as a means of promoting friendship, teamwork, healthy living and community cohesion. His participation in cricket reflects his belief that sport can unite people from different backgrounds while fostering strong community relationships.

Through volunteering, environmental initiatives, alumni engagement and sport, he continues to represent Jamia with pride while inspiring fellow Jamians and young people to contribute positively to their communities.
