Jamian Jahid Ahmed Leads Blackheath CC to Kent Premier League Glory Again in 2024

The Jamia Alumni Network proudly celebrates another historic achievement by Jahid Ahmed, Jamia 2002 batch, who once again played a vital role in helping Blackheath Cricket Club win the Kent Cricket Premier League 2024.

Jahid delivered a disciplined and match defining bowling performance during the championship winning campaign, bowling his full quota of 10 overs, conceding just 30 runs, including 2 maiden overs, while taking 2 important wickets at an excellent economy rate of 3.00.

His consistency, leadership, and outstanding performances throughout the season earned him one of the league’s most prestigious individual honours, the KCL Cricketer of the Year Award 2024.

Reflecting on receiving the award, Jahid described it as an “incredible honour” and explained that the recognition represents a player’s long-term contribution to the league through:

Runs and wickets

Winning trophies

Leadership and commitment

Dedication and effort

Becoming a respected figure within the cricket community

In his heartfelt reflection, Jahid shared:

“At the end of the day the stats will mean nothing, but the legacy you leave behind is what matters.”

He also emphasised how meaningful it was to share these moments with teammates and friends in the dressing room, describing those memories as “priceless.”

One of the Greatest Bowlers in Kent Premier League History

Jahid Ahmed’s contribution to Kent League cricket has been extraordinary over many years. With more than 340 Kent League wickets, the vast majority coming in the highly competitive Premier Division, he has established himself as one of the finest seam bowlers in league history.

Known as a probing seam bowler with good pace and a smooth bowling action, Jahid has maintained an outstanding:

Bowling average of around 20

Economy rate of just 3.7

Nine 5 wicket hauls

He is currently recognised as the second highest wicket taker in Kent Premier League history, a truly remarkable achievement reflecting years of consistency and excellence.

Among many memorable moments, Blackheath teammates still fondly remember his unforgettable hat-trick against Hartley in 2015, one of the standout performances of his Kent League career.

A Dangerous and Explosive Batter

Jahid’s impact has not been limited to bowling alone. With the bat, he has scored over 3,300 Premier League runs, including:

4 centuries

3 half centuries

His aggressive batting style has been especially valuable for Blackheath, particularly as an opener in T20 cricket. He has appeared in six T20 Finals Days, helping Blackheath win the competition twice.

His ability to contribute in all formats has made him one of the most complete all-round cricketers in the Kent League.

Championship Success Across Multiple Eras

Jahid Ahmed has now played major roles in several historic championship winning campaigns for Blackheath CC:

2015 – Helped Blackheath become national champions

2018 – Helped Blackheath win the Kent Cricket League after a 37 year wait and was named Kent League Player of the Year 2018

2024 – Helped Blackheath win the Kent Cricket Premier League again and received the prestigious KCL Cricketer of the Year Award 2024

These achievements firmly establish Jahid as one of the most influential players in the club’s modern history.

Mentoring the Next Generation

Jahid Ahmed’s influence extends far beyond his own performances. He has also played an important mentoring and coaching role within the cricket community.

One notable example is Arafat Bhuiyan, who recently became only the third professional British Bangladeshi cricketer with Kent County Cricket Club. Arafat is among many young players who have benefited from Jahid’s guidance, encouragement, and selfless support.

A Lasting Legacy

From Jamia classrooms to professional and elite league cricket in England, Jahid Ahmed’s journey remains inspirational. He continues to break barriers and represent the British Bangladeshi community with distinction.

As recognised by Blackheath Cricket Club itself:

“As a player, as a coach, and as a man, Jahid has been a massively beneficial influence for Blackheath, for the Kent League, and for the sport as a whole.”

The Jamia Alumni Network warmly congratulates Jahid Ahmed on another remarkable achievement and celebrates his outstanding contribution to cricket, mentorship, leadership, and community sport.
