Jamia Alumni Network is delighted to congratulate our esteemed alumnus Prof. Dr. Hussain Ahmad (1999 Batch) on his promotion to Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Sylhet Women’s Medical College.

His promotion was approved by the Governing Body of Sylhet Women’s Medical College on 30 September 2026 and takes effect from 1 October 2026. He had been serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology since July 2019.

A graduate of Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College, Prof. Dr. Hussain Ahmad has built his career across medical education, clinical practice and professional development, with particular expertise in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Beyond his academic and professional achievements, what makes his journey particularly inspiring is his longstanding commitment to humanitarian service. Alongside treating patients as a Diabetes and Hormone Specialist, he has continued to support people experiencing financial hardship, including providing free medical consultations every Tuesday at Ibn Sina Rikabibazar for patients who are unable to afford consultation fees. His approach to medicine reflects a belief that healthcare is not only a profession, but also an opportunity to serve people with compassion and dignity.

He is also actively involved in community service and currently serves as President of the Rotary Club of Sylhet for 2026-27, extending that commitment to service beyond the medical profession.

Reflecting on his promotion, Prof. Dr. Hussain described the achievement not simply as advancement in position, but as a commitment to greater responsibility in academic leadership, knowledge creation and institutional excellence. He hopes to contribute further to quality medical education and research, ethical professionalism, and the development of young teachers and students.

From a student of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School and College to physician, medical educator, humanitarian and now Professor, his journey represents an important milestone for the wider Jamian community.
