Team Blue were crowned champions of the Jamia Internal Cricket Tournament 2026 after defeating Team Green by five runs in a thrilling Grand Final held on Monday, 22 June 2026, at Seven Kings Park Cricket Ground, Ilford.
The tournament, jointly organised by the Jamia Alumni Association UK and the Jamia Cricketers Association UK, brought together six teams comprising Jamians from different batches for a day of exciting T10 cricket, friendship, and brotherhood.
Road to the Final
Team Blue qualified for the semi-finals after finishing second in Group A, recording a narrow two-run victory over Team Yellow. They then produced one of the standout performances of the tournament in the semi-final, defeating Group B winners Team Orange by 31 runs to secure their place in the championship match.
Team Green entered the final unbeaten, having topped Group A before completing a remarkable chase against Team Purple in the semi-final.
A Grand Final Worthy of the Occasion
After winning the toss, Team Blue batted first and posted a competitive total of 157 for 5 from their allotted ten overs.
The innings was anchored by Asaduzzaman Rone, who remained unbeaten on 45, while Shahriar Hussain added a quick-fire 28 and Hasan Ovi contributed 17 valuable runs.
Chasing 158 for victory, Team Green responded with determination. Maruf Ahmed produced an outstanding unbeaten 55, supported by Nurul Alam Shopon (23) and Azmol Hussain Mamun (21 not out). Despite the spirited chase, Team Green finished on 152 for 5, falling just five runs short.
The closely fought contest provided a fitting conclusion to a tournament that had entertained players and spectators throughout the day.
Individual Performances
Team Blue’s success was built on strong all-round performances throughout the tournament.
Shahriar Hussain was named Player of the Final after scoring 28 runs and claiming 1 wicket for 11 runs, making a decisive contribution with both bat and ball.
Hasan Ovi enjoyed an exceptional tournament, helping Team Blue lift the trophy while also being named Player of the Tournament and Best Bowler for his outstanding all-round performances.
Champions of 2026
Team Blue’s victory completed a remarkable journey. After progressing from the group stage, they overcame one of the tournament favourites in the semi-final before holding their nerve in a closely contested final to become Jamia Internal Cricket Tournament 2026 Champions.
The presentation ceremony took place immediately after the final in the presence of respected senior Jamians, including Dr Ali Ahmed-Shuaib, Ajmal Masroor, and Sorwar Alom, who congratulated the players and presented the trophies and individual awards.
The tournament proved to be far more than a cricket competition. It was a celebration of friendship, sportsmanship, and the enduring bonds of the Jamia family. Players, alumni, families, volunteers, and supporters all contributed to making the event a memorable success.
