On 13 December 2023, Jamia alumnus Maruf Ahmed (SSC 2004 Batch) was appointed as the Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Welfare & Cultural Association, Cambridge (BWCAC). His appointment marked a proud moment not only for him personally, but also for the wider Jamia community, as he stepped into a respected leadership role within the Cambridge Bangladeshi community.
The announcement of the new committee, held at The Curry Palace in Cottenham, was a warm and vibrant gathering. Under the leadership of Kosru Miah and his team, guests enjoyed outstanding hospitality and delicious food. The event highlighted the organisation’s achievements, ongoing community projects, and future plans – reflecting the growing strength and unity of the Bangladeshi community in Cambridge.
During the programme, Shah Jalal Foodhub received well-deserved recognition for its continued success. Special acknowledgement was also given to the essential funeral assistance service and the significant funds raised to support a bereaved family facing hardship after the loss of their main provider.

Completion of His Term – Reflections and Gratitude
On 9 September 2025, Maruf Ahmed publicly reflected on the conclusion of his term as Joint Secretary, expressing gratitude and humility:
“I am pleased to announce the successful completion of my term as Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Welfare & Cultural Association, Cambridge. This role provided me with the valuable opportunity to collaborate directly with senior members of our community and contribute meaningfully to the Cambridge society. Receiving positive feedback from elders has been a source of genuine pride and motivation.”
He extended heartfelt thanks to community elders, including Abdul Hye Mama and Ahmed Bhai, for placing trust in him and providing the opportunity to serve.
Maruf also expressed deep appreciation to Shelim Ahmed and Kosru Bhai for their exceptional hospitality at The Curry Palace, Cottenham, noting that the restaurant’s outstanding cuisine justifies its reputation as one of the finest establishments in Cambridge and the surrounding region.
