Jamian Leadership on the Global Business Stage, WBCC Delegation at the Bangladesh Business Summit 2023

The Wales Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (WBCC) marked a significant milestone in international business diplomacy by sending a high level delegation to the Bangladesh Business Summit 2023, following the formal invitation of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI). This prestigious summit also formed part of the historic 50 year celebrations of FBCCI, adding further significance to WBCC’s participation.

Among the strong and influential delegation representing Wales was our proud Jamian of the SSC 2000 batch, Aziz Chowdhury, also widely known as Ahmed Zaku, serving as Director and Organising Secretary of WBCC. His inclusion at this global platform reflects his growing leadership stature and the trust placed in his role within one of the most influential business organisations representing the UK Bangladesh corridor.

The Bangladesh Business Summit 2023 was held on 11 and 12 March 2023 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center. The summit was organised by FBCCI in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh, supported by the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority under the Prime Minister’s Office. The event was designed to showcase Bangladesh as an emerging trade and investment hub of Asia and to position the country as a destination of choice for global investors.

As Bangladesh’s apex trade body, FBCCI has played a pivotal role in safeguarding private sector interests since its establishment in 1973. Now celebrating 50 years of service, FBCCI has been instrumental in strengthening national and international trade, building global connectivity, and bringing together policymakers, investors, innovators, and business leaders from across the world.

WBCC utilised this grand international summit not only to represent Wales and the British Bangladeshi business community, but also to actively build new relationships, partnerships, and long term collaborations with delegates from across the globe. Through strategic engagement and networking, WBCC enhanced bilateral participation between Bangladesh and Wales, opening new pathways for investment, enterprise development, and professional exchange.

The involvement of Aziz Chowdhury at this level demonstrates the growing presence of Jamians within global economic and governance platforms. His role as Director and Organising Secretary placed him at the heart of engagement, coordination, and partnership building on behalf of WBCC, strengthening both institutional diplomacy and community representation.

The Jamia Alumni Network takes deep pride in seeing a Jamian contributing at such a high level to international trade relations, economic diplomacy, and cross border collaboration. This journey reflects how Jamians continue to serve with vision, leadership, and global impact.
