Our memorable Jamia 2000 Batch UK gathering took place on Sunday, 11 May 2025, bringing together childhood friends for an afternoon of reflection, inspiration, and warm camaraderie.
We were honoured to be joined by Former Vice Principal Abdus Shakur Jonab, who is currently visiting the UK from Bangladesh. Despite his demanding schedule, Jonab kindly made time to meet with us, and we are truly grateful.
He took us on a heartfelt journey down memory lane, recalling the golden days of Jamia in the 1990s, when we were students preparing for our SSC in 2000. In his keynote speech, Jonab offered timeless and invaluable advice – emphasising the importance of earning through halal means, spending meaningful time with family and children, and constantly making duas for them. He reminded us that our greatest investment lies in our families and the upbringing of our children.
Although he is now retired, Shakur Jonab remains incredibly active, MashaAllah, and continues to serve in various educational establishments. His passion for education and character-building remains unwavering. Thousands of his former students are now spread across the globe, carrying forward the values, ethics, and inspiration he instilled in us during our childhood. We acknowledged with deep gratitude the lasting contributions of all the teachers of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College ,Sylhet, who shaped our paths and character. May Allah swt accept their hard work & their dedication to the teaching and reward them in abundance!
We also took a moment to remember with love and respect all our late teachers (Jonabs), especially our dear friend Jamil, whose memory remains close to our hearts. May Allah swt forgive them and place them in the Jannatul Ferdous!
The afternoon was made even more special with a delicious lunch at Shokher Hari Restaurant, served in traditional clay pot plates and glasses. The authentic presentation added a beautiful nostalgic touch which Jonab especially enjoyed.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College Alumni Association UK Summer Get Together and Fun Day 2025 on Sunday, 13th July 2025 in London, inshaAllah. All alumni are warmly encouraged to attend with their families and children.
