The Jamia Alumni Network is delighted to share that Syed Ahmed Mahfuz, SSC 1997 Batch of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College, has been appointed as the Coach and Manager of the 1st Division Team of Newcastle Tigers Sports Club for the 2026 season.
Founded in 2010, Newcastle Tigers Sports Club is recognised as one of the pioneering diverse community sports clubs in the North East of England, promoting cricket and other sporting activities while encouraging community engagement, inclusion, and teamwork.
Syed Ahmed Mahfuz brings with him a wealth of experience in cricket leadership and development. In Bangladesh, he previously served as a Sylhet 1st Division Captain and also worked as a District Team Manager. In the United Kingdom, he has been actively involved in grassroots and youth cricket development, including working as a Cricket Development Officer with Durham Cricket, where he earned recognition for his contributions to community coaching and youth engagement.
Alongside his sporting and leadership experience, he also covered the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup as an ICC-listed journalist, reflecting his wider involvement within the cricketing world.
Adding further strength to his coaching profile, Syed Ahmed Mahfuz successfully achieved the ECB Foundation I Coach (Level 1) qualification in 2021 and later completed the prestigious ECB Core Coach (Level 2) qualification in 2024 under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) coaching pathway.
His appointment is a proud moment for the Jamia community and a reflection of how Jamians continue to make meaningful contributions internationally through leadership, sports development, and community service.

২০১০ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত Newcastle Tigers Sports Club যুক্তরাজ্যের নর্থ ইস্ট অঞ্চলের অন্যতম অগ্রণী বহুসাংস্কৃতিক কমিউনিটি স্পোর্টস ক্লাব হিসেবে পরিচিত। ক্রিকেটসহ বিভিন্ন ক্রীড়া কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে ক্লাবটি কমিউনিটি সংযোগ, অংশগ্রহণ এবং দলগত চেতনা গড়ে তুলতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে আসছে।
সৈয়দ আহমদ মাহফুজ বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেট অঙ্গনেও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অভিজ্ঞতার অধিকারী। তিনি একসময় সিলেট ১ম বিভাগ ক্রিকেট দলের অধিনায়ক এবং জেলা দলের ম্যানেজার হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। যুক্তরাজ্যে তিনি যুব ও গ্রাসরুট ক্রিকেট উন্নয়নে সক্রিয়ভাবে কাজ করেছেন এবং Durham Cricket-এ Cricket Development Officer হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করে কমিউনিটি কোচিংয়ে প্রশংসা অর্জন করেন।
এছাড়াও, তিনি ২০১১ সালের ICC Cricket World Cup-এ ICC তালিকাভুক্ত সাংবাদিক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন, যা ক্রিকেটের প্রতি তাঁর দীর্ঘ সম্পৃক্ততার আরেকটি অনন্য দৃষ্টান্ত।
ক্রিকেট কোচিংয়ে নিজের দক্ষতা আরও সমৃদ্ধ করতে তিনি ২০২১ সালে ECB Foundation I Coach (Level 1) এবং ২০২৪ সালে ECB Core Coach (Level 2) কোচিং যোগ্যতা অর্জন করেন, যা England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)-এর স্বীকৃত কোচিং সনদ।
