The Jamia Alumni Network proudly congratulates Dr Hussain Ahmad, a distinguished alumnus of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College (Class of 1999), on being elected President of the Rotary Club of Sylhet for the 2026-2027 Rotary Year. Having served as President-Elect during the 2025-2026 session, taking on the responsibility of leading one of Sylhet’s respected service organisations.
His election is a fitting recognition of his longstanding dedication to healthcare, education, humanitarian service and community leadership.
A Journey of Academic Excellence
After completing his SSC at Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College in 1999, Dr Hussain pursued higher education before graduating with an MBBS degree from Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College in 2007.
Committed to continuous professional development, he later earned an MPhil in Medicine and Diabetology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in 2014. He has also undertaken advanced professional training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in Singapore, Malaysia and India, further strengthening his expertise in managing diabetes and hormonal disorders.
A Dedicated Physician and Medical Educator
Dr Hussain currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Sylhet Women’s Medical College, where he plays an important role in educating and mentoring future generations of medical professionals.
Alongside his academic responsibilities, he is widely recognised as a respected Diabetes and Hormone Specialist, providing specialist medical care to patients at Ibn Sina Diagnostic & Consultation Centre, Rikabibazar, Sylhet.
Beyond his clinical expertise, Dr Hussain has earned widespread admiration for his compassionate approach to patient care. He is particularly known for supporting patients from disadvantaged backgrounds, including offering free consultations every Tuesday for those unable to afford medical treatment. A simple sign displayed in his consultation room – “If paying the consultation fee is difficult, please let me know without hesitation” – has become a powerful symbol of his humanity and commitment to ensuring healthcare remains accessible to everyone.
Leadership Through Service
Throughout his career, Dr Hussain has remained actively involved in educational, charitable and community organisations alongside his medical profession.
His election as President of the Rotary Club of Sylhet reflects his reputation as a trusted community leader dedicated to improving lives through service above self. Rotary International is one of the world’s largest humanitarian organisations, bringing together professionals committed to supporting communities through projects in healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, youth development and humanitarian relief.
As President, Dr Hussain will lead the Club’s activities throughout the 2026-2027 Rotary Year, working alongside fellow Rotarians to deliver projects that benefit local communities while promoting Rotary’s values of fellowship, integrity and service.
