Jamia Alumna Sumaiya Tasnim (SSC 2015) Begins Her Academic Career as Lecturer at SUST

Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School and College is delighted to celebrate the success of Sumaiya Tasnim, SSC Graduate of 2015, who has joined the Department of Statistics, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) as a Lecturer in June 2025.

Sumaiya’s journey is an inspiring example of academic excellence, determination and meaningful contribution to society. Born in 1998, she completed her secondary schooling at Jamia with top results and merit scholarships, before moving on to Sylhet Government Women’s College for her HSC.

She then pursued higher studies in Statistics at SUST, where she consistently excelled – graduating first in her class in both her BSc (Honours) and MS (Thesis) programmes. Her exceptional academic performance earned her distinction honours, multiple merit awards, and recognition as one of the brightest scholars of her cohort.

Alongside her academic achievements, Sumaiya has also taken on leadership responsibilities, currently serving as Assistant Provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall, SUST.

🔬 Research and Professional Contributions

Before joining as Lecturer, Sumaiya played influential roles in several research projects funded by major national institutions, including:

icddr,b – Government Project RGfW
Bangladesh Institute of Governance and Management (BIGM) – Project IRMP
SUST Research Centre – Epidemiology and public health study

Her publications in Scopus-indexed journals cover themes such as adolescent nutrition, respiratory infections, and statistical modelling applications in healthcare. She has presented at key conferences and earned the Best Poster Award at International Seminar & StatFest 2023.
