Inaugural Chair, SJISC Alumni Association UK (2025–2027 Session)
Dr Ali Ahmed-Shuaib, alumnus of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School and College (SJISC), Sylhet – 1987 Batch, was elected on 14 October 2025 as the Inaugural Chair of the SJISC Alumni Association UK for the 2025–27 session. His election reflects a distinguished professional journey and lifelong dedication to medicine, education, leadership, and community service.
Dr Ahmed-Shuaib, in his message to Jamians following his election as Chairperson, said:

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
Alhamdulillah, it is with deep gratitude and humility that I extend my warmest greetings to all members of the Shahialal Jamia Islamia School & Ćollege (SJISC) Alumni Association UK as vour newly elected Chairperson,
In my remarks at the Inaugural General Meeting, I shared that I am here to listen – and truly, I mean it. My door and heart are open to all Jamians. I encourage everyone to be proactive and engaged in shaping our Alumni’s activities – not imited to an annual Iftar or Summer Get Together, but through regular initiatives that benefit ourselves, our families, and the society in which we live.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the brothers and sisters who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring this historic milestone to life. You are the true heroes of this Association. Despite my busy professiona schedule being a Consultant GP, I am determined to be part of this iourney because Jamia remains part of my identity, even after more than 35 years’ since I left its campus.
I look forward to working closely with my fellow elected brothers and sisters – and indeed with all Jamians across the UK – as we build a strong, inclusive, and purposeful SJISC Alumni Association UK together, InshaAllah.

Profile of Dr Ali Ahmed-Shuaib
Academic and Professional Background
Dr Ahmed-Shuaib’s educational journey began at Jamia, where the foundations of discipline and service were instilled. He later graduated in Medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, University of London, earning his MBBS (1996) and BMedSci (Hons) in Neuro-endocrinology.
He holds a wide range of prestigious qualifications:
DO-HNS (RCSEng) – Diploma in Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of England
MRCGP (UK) – Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners
LLM (Distinction) – Master of Laws in International Legal Studies, University of East London
PGCME – Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, University of Cambridge
Clinical Practice and Leadership
After initial surgical training across several London teaching hospitals, Dr Ahmed-Shuaib chose to specialise in General Practice with a special interest in Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT). He currently serves as GP Clinical Lead for ENT Services across multiple boroughs including Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, and City & Hackney, and as an Associate Specialist in Otolaryngology.
He has practised as a GP in Tower Hamlets for more than twelve years, where he is widely respected for his clinical skill, empathy, and leadership in community-based healthcare. His practice also includes minor surgical procedures such as joint injections and circumcisions, all delivered to the highest clinical standards.
Service to the Muslim Community through Circumcision Care
Dr Ahmed-Shuaib has provided professional circumcision services for many years, offering families a trusted, safe, and compassionate environment.
In Islam, khitān (circumcision) is regarded as an important religious tradition symbolising purity, hygiene, and obedience to divine guidance. It represents the continuation of the prophetic tradition of Prophet Ibrāhīm (Abraham) عليه السلام and is a mark of identity within the Muslim faith.
From a medical perspective, circumcision – when performed under proper sterile conditions – can reduce certain infections and promote long-term genital hygiene. By combining clinical excellence with cultural understanding, Dr Ahmed-Shuaib has earned the gratitude of countless families across the UK who seek this service with comfort, dignity, and reassurance.
Academic and Intellectual Engagement
Beyond clinical medicine, Dr Ahmed-Shuaib holds an enduring passion for academic inquiry and policy dialogue. He serves as Director of Policy and Communication at the Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES), focusing on ethics, governance, and cross-civilisational thought.
His academic writings include:
“Establishing the Authority without Authoritarianism – A Quest for Accountable Governance within Islamic Political Discourse”
“Democratising Islam – Imposing the Demos on the Divine?”
His LLM dissertation, “Political Islam and the West – Collision, Conquest or Convergence?”, remains a significant study on the intersection of law, religion, and modernity.
A passionate educator, he also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Cambridge, reinforcing his commitment to teaching and mentoring future healthcare professionals.
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Dr Ahmed-Shuaib co-founded Zamir Telecom in 2004 and now serves as Director of Operations at SCB Global, a Microsoft-integrated communications enterprise serving more than 600,000 global users. His people-centred leadership has been credited with nurturing SCB Global’s collaborative and innovative culture.
As Head of Innovation at the International Health Development Foundation (IHDF), he works with volunteer doctors providing healthcare for vulnerable communities. In 2024, he was appointed Ambassador for Global Relief Trust (GRT), recognising his outstanding humanitarian contribution.
Community Thought Leadership
Dr Ahmed-Shuaib also serves as Moderator and Co-Chair of Dialogue within Islam, a forum promoting open and balanced discussions on the social, ethical, and global challenges facing humanity. His interdisciplinary perspective links science, spirituality, and social responsibility in a coherent moral framework.
Legacy and Connection to Jamia
Proudly identifying himself as a Jamian of the 1987 Batch, Dr Ahmed-Shuaib often recalls that Jamia’s values of sincerity, discipline, and service shaped his lifelong ethos. His election as Inaugural Chair of the SJISC Alumni Association UK is a fitting reflection of his journey – from a Jamia classroom in Sylhet to a position of leadership in British healthcare and global dialogue.
