The Jamia Alumni Network proudly celebrates another outstanding sporting achievement by Jahid Ahmed, Jamia 2002 batch, whose exceptional performances helped Blackheath Cricket Club win the KCL Premier League 2018, ending a 37 year wait for the prestigious title.
Blackheath CC last won the league in 1984, and after nearly four decades, the club finally lifted the championship once again in 2018, with Jahid Ahmed playing a defining role throughout the season.
In one of the key matches of the campaign, Blackheath secured a dominant victory, winning by 205 runs. Jahid delivered a superb all-round performance, showcasing both explosive batting and disciplined bowling.
Opening his attack with the bat, he scored a rapid 44 runs from just 28 balls, striking 2 fours and 3 sixes with an outstanding strike rate of 157.14. With the ball, he produced a masterclass in controlled bowling, delivering 6 overs for only 8 runs, including 1 maiden over, while maintaining an extraordinary economy rate of 1.33.
His remarkable consistency and impact across the entire season earned him the prestigious honour of being named Blackheath CC Kent League Player of the Year 2018.
A Trailblazer in British Bangladeshi Cricket
Jahid Ahmed’s cricketing journey has been historic from the very beginning. Following a five year professional career with Essex County Cricket Club, he became the first British Bangladeshi cricketer to play First Class Cricket.
After joining Blackheath CC for the 2010 season, he continued competing at elite level cricket and also represented the Unicorns team in List A cricket for the following two seasons alongside his club commitments.
In another landmark achievement, Jahid Ahmed became the first ever British Bangladeshi to serve as 12th man for the England Cricket Team in 2008, a proud and groundbreaking moment for the British Bangladeshi sporting community.
