Team Green hosted a special celebration evening on Monday, 29 June 2026, at London Enterprise Academy following their outstanding runners-up finish in the Jamia Internal Cricket Tournament 2026. The tournament, jointly organised by the Jamia Alumni Association UK and the Jamia Cricketers Association UK, was held on Monday, 22 June 2026, at Seven Kings Park Cricket Ground, Ilford.
The event brought together more than 20 Jamians from different batches, who enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal whilst reflecting on a memorable tournament and strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood. The gathering was not only a celebration of Team Green’s achievements on the field but also a testament to the unity and lifelong friendships that continue to flourish within the Jamia family.
Team Green was jointly led by Azmol Hossain Mamun and Md Golam Jilany, both from the Jamia 2000 Batch. The team also featured a strong representation from the same batch, with seven players contributing throughout the tournament.
The team’s campaign was exceptional. They topped Group A after victories over Team Yellow and Team Blue, before producing one of the matches of the tournament in the semi-final by chasing down 145 against Team Purple to secure a thrilling five-wicket victory. In the Grand Final, Team Green fought until the very end but narrowly lost to Team Blue by just five runs, finishing as worthy runners-up.
Across the tournament, Team Green won three of their four matches, scoring between 131 and 152 runs while consistently demonstrating disciplined batting and determined fielding. Their bowling attack also made an important contribution, with Md Golam Jilany finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker with five wickets in three innings. Juber Ahmed Rukon and Abdul Kadir Ziaul claimed two wickets each, while Maruf Ahmed, Hasan Abdullah, and Nurul Alam Shopon also made valuable contributions with the ball.
The team also excelled individually. Azharul Islam Adnan finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 131 runs in just three innings, including a highest score of 54, earning him the Best Batsman of the Tournament award. Maruf Ahmed enjoyed an outstanding tournament with 102 runs, including an unbeaten half-century in the Grand Final.
Speaking after the celebration, team members reflected on a campaign built on teamwork, commitment, and mutual support. While the championship trophy narrowly escaped them, Team Green’s performances, sportsmanship, and unity earned the respect and admiration of fellow players and spectators alike.
The evening concluded with appreciation for everyone who supported the team throughout the tournament, as players, alumni, and friends looked ahead with optimism to future competitions.
The Jamia Alumni Association UK congratulates Team Green on an outstanding tournament and thanks every player, volunteer, organiser, and supporter who helped make the Jamia Internal Cricket Tournament 2026 such a memorable success. Their runners-up finish, together with their exemplary team spirit, has become a proud chapter in the growing sporting tradition of the Jamia family.
