A Father-Son Journey of Compassion: Dr Ebadur Chowdhury (Alumnus 1994) Inspires Through Action and Family Bonding

In a world where values are often taught through words, Dr Ebadur Chowdhury (ডাঃ এবাদুর রহমান চৌধুরী, ১৯৯৪ ব্যাচ), a proud alumnus of Jamia SSC Batch 1994, believes in teaching through example. His touching initiative with his young son not only raised funds for vulnerable children in Bangladesh but also demonstrated the true essence of family bonding, compassion, and shared responsibility.

On 18 May 2021, The News (Portsmouth) highlighted this remarkable father–son effort, showcasing how meaningful actions can begin at home.

A Mission Rooted in Humanity

Dr Ebadur, a GP from Milton, undertook a 200km cycling–running–walking challenge alongside his 10-year-old son, Amaan, to raise funds for Muslim Charity’s ‘Rescuing Street Children’ programme.

The mission was clear:

To help rescue children living on the streets of Dhaka

To build awareness of their daily struggles

To remind society of the power of empathy and collective action

Their challenge has already raised over £1,500, a contribution that will directly support children who have nowhere to go and no one to protect them.

According to the United Nations, the streets of Dhaka shelter over 600,000 children—three times the population of Portsmouth. For Dr Ebadur and Amaan, this was not just a statistic. It was a call for action.

A Beautiful Bond: Parenting Through Shared Purpose

This initiative reflects something far deeper than charity – it reflects parenthood at its best.

Dr Ebadur’s involvement of his son demonstrates:

1. Teaching Values Through Action

By participating together, Amaan learns that compassion is not an abstract idea. It is something practiced with effort, commitment, and sincerity.

2. Strengthening the Father–Son Bond

Every kilometre cycled or walked together became a moment of connection – an opportunity to talk, reflect, and dream.

3. Showing Children Their Power to Help Others

Amaan learns early in life that he can contribute meaningfully to society, regardless of age.

4. Building Emotional Intelligence and Responsibility

Being part of a humanitarian cause helps children understand empathy, justice, and the importance of using one’s abilities to serve others.

A Lesson for All of Us

In a time when screens often dominate family life, this story reminds us of the transformative power of doing things together:

Shared activities strengthen trust

Shared goals build unity

Shared compassion builds character

Dr Ebadur’s initiative is not just a charity challenge – it is a blueprint for meaningful parenting.
